Welcome to the Jungle…

In November I participated in the splendid Horison Convention in Odense where Claus and I had brought along a little Oldhammer-scenario entitled Koka Lustria. The name more or less sets the stage.

Here’s the blurp which gives you an idea of the set-up.

This game takes us to the lush jungles of Lustria. Scaly lizardmen have captured the amazon novice Maka who was soon to be initiated as a priestess of the most sacred goddess Rigg. The vile humanoids are planning to use young Maka in one of their hideous fertility rites. Such blasphemy must be prevented at any cost and the fanatic servants of Rigg thus launch a rescue mission to free their sister before she suffers defilement from the cold hands of the walking lizards. A small warband of koka-crazed amazons, led by the most illustrious priestess Tototic, is thus sent off into the jungle to bring back their sister with the support from their pygmy allies. Will they succeed?

So the setup for the scenario is fairly straight forward. An alliance of amazons and pygmies have to fight the lizardmen in order to free young Maka before a huge snake rapes her during the weird fertility rite of the lizardmen. Yep, pulpy stuff, I know. The rules we used were more or less Warhammer 3rd ed. by the way.

This is more or less what the scenario look like. We played the game twice with four gamers each time and two GMs and the pictures come from both games. Sorry for crappy quality of many of the pictures! Thanks to those wo participated. We had a blast.

I’ll upload the rosters and technicalities of the scenario for further inspiration during the weekend.

Cheers

Impressions from Horisont Con –Part 2

DSC_0003

Here you have some further impressions from Horisont Con last weekend. A jolly good con with a bunch of nice people, solid home-cooked food and an overall friendly atmosphere. My guess would be that around 40-50 people were present at some point during the weekend including a few shops and some bring-and-buy stuff. I’ll certainly come back next year and if I’m not mistaken, my partner in crime, Claus, will do the same.

During the con some would find time to do some modelling and painting.

One of the games played was Hawk Wargames' Dropzone Commander. A Sci-Fi game with a huge tactical potential and not really my thing. I had a go at a test game which went smooth but the vibe of the game left me somewhat cold.

Impressions from Horisont Con 2014 – Part 1

DSC_0024

Here’s a quick, image-heavy post with impressions from this year’s Horisont Con in Odense. Claus and I presented our Vale of the Small Jalous Gods-scenario and managed to play it twice. The first game was a bit rough around the edges but great fun. The second game ran more smoothly and was highly entertaining. The lesson to be learned from this – play-test your scenarios before you run them on a con! Deep wisdom, I know. The con stretched from Friday to Sunday last weekend – Friday consisted mostly of getting settled, chatting and drinking beer, Saturday was a day of hardcore gaming, some more beer-drinking and chatting, whereas Sunday was mostly packing the whole thing down. Altogether Horisont was good fun and I’ll certainly return next year.

In this post you’ll find pics from our scenario. In the Next one you will see some pics from all of the other stuff going on. DSC_0056

Vale of the Small Jealous Gods – Report after a hard days night

intro

There’s now only one week to Horisont Con in Odense where Claus and I will present our Vale of the Small Jealous Gods-scenario. We spent some time this weekend to finish almost all the crucial elements but there’s still a lot to do. It seemed like such a simple thing to do back in August when we began planning this, but quite a few hours has gone into this project by now and there is still more to do. However, most of the work has been fun. Once everything is ready we’ll post a proper presentation of the whole thing.

Here you first of all have a few pics of the board as it looks now. The four small shrines in the center still need some work which Claus is finishing during the week.

I’ll be working on the centerpiece to stand in the middle of the shrines – a large sacrificial mount. You can see a photo of the thing here. It’s obviously a work-in-progress thing at the moment.

The artwork for the introductory text as well as the snakes for the mission cards to be used during the game was also finished this week.

One of the 'mission cards' used in the game. The text still needs to be edited but the lay-out is in place

Well, should you be near Odense next week, swing by and make sure to bring your cool-ass warband.

Cheers

WIP: A chaos champion with a huge head

DSCN5415

Howdy. Here’s a little something I want to share with you. It’s a WIP I’m currently working on. A chaos champion randomly created through Orlygg’s “chaos bands made easy” post on his blog. Actually this chap was created very late in Stansted Airport while Claus and I were waiting for our plane, going back to Copenhagen from this year’s BOYL. I rolled the following attributes for this guy: 1: a “crown of toes” (!),2:  a “huge head” and 3: “very fast”. I tried to make the crown of toes work but it didn’t look right and “very fast” is hard to show. I thus ended up with this bobblehead of a champion. The conversion was wickedly fun to do and I’m really eager to get a go at the painting now. Actually he’s already undercoated white and drying while I write this.

He still lacks a name – more on this to come. In fact quite a lot more I think. He’s the first of four champions we created for a little Oldhammer scenario entitled “Vale of the Small Jealous Gods” which we will be running at the Horizon Convention in Silkeborg this November.

We’ll post more about the scenario soon and hopefully we’ll be able to get some of the other “oldhammerer” from Denmark or even the nearby countries to join us.
